Mermaid Tattoos

Mermaid tattoos are some of the most classic material to draw from and still some of the most popular tattoos that we get requested to do today and for good reason!

Long has the lore of the mermaid been a part of mans story. Mermaids appear in the folklore of many cultures across the globe, including the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Traditionally, sailors texts often mentioned mermaid sightings. These sightings were often recounted and shared by sailors who believed that mermaids were known for their ability to attract sailors with their beauty, destroying their ships on the rocks in order to steal their gold. Tattooing this image can often symbolize the power of feminine energy and the danger of losing everything because of the lust and lure of a woman.

“The Little Mermaid” is a fairy tale written by author Hans Christian Andersen. The story tell about the journey of a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea as a mermaid to gain a human soul. The book was first published in 1837 as part of a collection of fairy tales for children.

“But a mermaid has no tears, and therefore she suffers so much more.”

In addition to the book by Hans Christian Anderson, The Little Mermaid was a 1989 American animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and Walt Disney Pictures. While Disney tattoos have always been popular, there has been a resurgence of interest in the Little Mermaid with the announcement of the upcoming remake of the movie starring singer Halle Bailey. The exciting part of this new live action remake is the opportunity to be able to re imagine  the story that we all grew up with in a new way. We would be thrilled to commemorate this remake in the form of a tattoo for you!
